nematski smektični A smektični C

Vrsta molekul tekočih kristralov vsebuje dušik. Gibanje molekul deloma izpovpreči gradient električnega polja na mestu dušika. Zaradi tega se spremene kvadrupolne resonančne frekvence ¹⁴N. Zaradi gibanja molekul se deloma izpovpreči tudi tenzor anizotropije kemijskega premika jeder, na primer ¹³C. Z merjenjem kvadrupolnih resonančnih frekvenc ¹⁴N in kemijskega premika ¹³C preučujemo gibanje in urejenost molekul v tekočih kristalih.
